This article outlines a simple method for creating a multi-video presentation that plays automatically.
Adding the videos to a presentation
- Download the video files to your laptop. Anywhere on the laptop is fine, but for convenience I would create a folder on your desktop and save the videos there.
- Open PowerPoint and create a new presentation
- Add a new blank slide for each of the videos.
- Starting on the first slide, add the video you wish to play first by:
- Select Insert > Video > From this device, then find and select the video file from its location on your laptop
- Adjust the size of the video on the slide so it fits nicely.
- Repeat step 4 for each video until you have them all inserted on individual slides.
Set the videos to play automatically.
- Starting with Slide 1's video, click the video on the slide, then select the 'playback' tab from the top
- Within the playback tap change the 'Start' option to 'Automatically'
- Repeat the above steps for each video slide.
Set the slide timings - If you've been following the steps above, the videos should be set to play automatically, but slide transitions will still require a mouse-click. The next steps will allow the presentation to run continuously without any input.
- Now that you have all the video slides in place and set to play automatically, select the Slide Show tab from the top and click 'Rehearse Timings'
- The presentation will start playing. Once the first video ends, click the -> arrow in the top left to progress onto the next slide. Repeat the process until the presentation is finished.
- When the presentation ends, you will be prompted to save your timings. If you are happy with them select Yes, otherwise select No and repeat the process until they are correct.
Save the presentation as a 'show' - For the presentation to use the timings you've set, you'll need to save it as a PowerPoint 'show'.
- Select File > Save AS
- In the 'Save As' window, give the presentation a name, and switch the 'Save as type:' setting from 'PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx)' to 'PowerPoint Show (*.ppsx)'
- With the file named and the type switched to PowerPoint Show, select Save.
Now that you have it saved as a PowerPoint show, double-clicking the file should play the presentation through from start to finish using the timings you set.
