We have to assign your school domain to Apple School Manager so that you can (amongst other things) manage students Apple passwords, use Apple School Manager, make use of the 200GB iCloud storage, share notes etc.
Using the school email address and password (your normal office 365 credentials) is possible and will give you access to many features BUT using it as your main Apple ID will prevent you from installing apps from the normal Apple Store, you will only be able to install apps from the Self Service store.
