Sometimes, it is necessary to have separate online sessions using different credentials, for example signing in to Microsoft 365 for multiple organisations.
Our recommendation is to use browser profiles for this purpose - this way, you can keep all of your logins safely in separate sessions.
Browser profiles are available in Chrome and Edge (some other browsers too, but not Safari), and instructions for each are below:
Google Chrome
- Open the Chrome browser on your computer.
- At the top right, click the Profile button (the circle)
- Click Add.
- Click Continue without an account [unless you want to add a Google account]
- Choose a label, and if you want, a photo and a colour.
- Click Done. A new window will open ready for you to browse to and sign in to your various services associated with that profile.
Once you have individual profiles set up, you can toggle between them. To do this:
- Open Chrome on your computer.
- At the top right, click Profile.
- Choose the person or profile you want to switch to.
Microsoft Edge
Sadly, Edge is a little more unnecessarily complicated!
- Open the Edge browser on your computer.
- At the top right, click the Profile button (the circle)
- Click Add Profile.
- Click Add
- Click Start without your data
- Click Don't allow and Confirm and start browsing
- Choose a colour scheme if you wish, then Next
- Click Finish
- A new window will open ready for you to browse to and sign in to your various services associated with that profile.
- To name the profile, at the top right, click Profile and then Manage Profile Settings
- Click the 3 dots and then Edit
- Name the profile and choose an avatar if you wish. Click Update
Once you have individual profiles set up, you can toggle between them. To do this:
- Open Edge on your computer.
- At the top right, click Profile.
- Choose the person or profile you want to switch to.
