This article describes a method for copying your class team notebooks to OneDrive as notebook packages. This is as opposed to the method found here, which describes copying notebooks as PDFs.
The advantage to this method is that any files attached to the notebook will be saved as part of the package.
The disadvantages to this method are that the notebook package files require the OneNote desktop application in order to be viewed, and they can be quite large depending on the number of attached files.
Below is an example of a notebook page showing the different types of content that will be transferred using the export as notebook package method. Note the file attachment in the top left corner which will be transferred using this method but would not be transferred using the alternative export as PDF method found here.
If the notebook you wish to export doesn't contain attachments, or you decided that you don't need to keep the attachments, it is better to use the export as PDF method.
To save a class team notebook to OneDrive as a notebook package..
1.
Sign-in to a PC in the library with your school account. Alternatively, sign-in to a personal PC with the OneNote desktop app installed (see this article on installing o365 apps at home if you don't have OneNote desktop)
2.
Start Teams (either the desktop or web browser app)
3.
Go to the team with the notebook you want to save.
4.
Select the Class Notebook tab within the Team
5.
Choose File > Info > Edit in Desktop App
6.
The OneNote Desktop app should start with relevant notebook open. Allow time for the Notebook to open and finish syncing.
Syncing in progress is indicated by this syncing symbol
Once the sync symbol either disappears or is replaced by an exclamation mark - this may take a few minutes depending on the size of the notebook - proceed to the next step.
7.
Within the Notebook app, choose File > Export
-
- Export Current: Notebook
- Select Format: OneNote Package (*.onepkg)
- Choose Export
8.
Create or Choose a folder on your OneDrive where the notebook package will be saved. Select Save
9.
The process will begin. If you see a warning about sections not being fully synced, select Yes
10.
Once the download finishes you will have a copy of the notebook saved to a folder in your OneDrive. Repeat the process from step 3 for each class notebook that you want to keep.
11.
Once you have saved the notebooks that you want to keep, sign in to OneDrive on a personal device and download the packages.
