Introduction
We have specific student level outbound sending limits imposed across the trust. These prevent students from spamming fellow students as well as staff, and engaging in distracting and potentially concerning conversation with external recipients whilst continuing to allow them to send emails to parents.
What are the Restrictions?
These limits are for an individual sending emails, and it applies to the number of recipients in the To, Cc and Bcc fields. This includes individual members of a distribution group, and includes repeated recipients.
- 40 internal recipients per hour
- 10 external recipients per hour
- 100 total recipients per day
- This limit applies to both internally and externally bound mail combined.
For Example
A student can send:
- One message to 40 classmates or teachers in any 60 minute period, or
- Two messages to 20 classmates or teachers in any 60 minute period, or
- Two messages to 40 classmates or teachers in 2 separate 60 minute periods
A student cannot send:
- One message to 100 recipients in a single 60 minute period, or
- Two messages totaling, 120 recipients during a 24 hour period, or
- Eleven messages to 1 external recipient in a 60 minute period
Any attempt made to exceed the above limits will trigger the student to be blocked from sending any further emails until the following day. This limit can be reset by IT Support once it's been triggered, if it's appropriate to do so.
